WordPress Plugin – Sharexy

Posted on July 27, 2013

If you are using WordPress then you’ve probably already come across a WordPress plugin or two but in this quick post I’m going to tell you about a Sharexy, a powerful social sharing WordPress plugin that I’m a big fan of.

If you’re blogging then you, like me and most other people on the big old tinternet, are doing what you can to divert some traffic to your site or blog so that the masses can read your musings and insights. Getting traffic to your blog can be aided by some good SEO or a strong social media marketing campaign but really, the best way to get traffic is for those who visit your site to become referrers to your site.

To make this possible two things have to happen.

  1. You have to create content that the reader will want to share. It can be blog posts, free WordPress plugins or widgets, free graphics sets, etc but it’s gotta be good.
  2. You have to make it as easy as possible for that reader to share your post. That’s where Sharexy comes in.

Sharexy is a very easy to use and rather powerful social sharing WordPress plugin. If you’re reading this post now you should see my Sharexy icons hovering to the left hand side of the screen – looking snazzy, uber powerful and only a few clicks to set up. There are lots of customisation options available within Sharexy so that you can have the sharing icons appear where you want them and how you want them to look.

One thing that the Sharexy WordPress plugin may have overlooked though is how will Sharexy look on smartphones or mobile devices. Well, depending on the screen size of the device, the Sharexy plugin can take up too much screen space and detract from your site. The good news is that WordPress expert Niall Flynn has got a snippet of code that will only allow Sharexy to appear on screens big enough to house them.

@media all and (max-width: 995px) {

Just add the code to the bottom of your style.css file and you should be sorted out. At first, when I checked my site on my Samsung Galaxy S3 I thought the code wasn’t working but it was. The S3 screen is big enough to display Sharexy without detracting from your site (sorry Apple users hehe).

Anyway, get the Sharexy WordPress plugin today and see if it helps improve your traffic..And, don’t be shy to press some of those icons on the left hand side of the screen now either ;)
