Have We Hit Peak Social Media – October Update

Hard to believe that this is now the 4th month of tracking the stats on peak social media usage. It’s not an exact science as accurate social media user data is hard to come by but in time these stats may become useful, or if nothing else, interesting. And, on the topic of interesting but perhaps useless info, this also happens to be my 50th blog post since my first post – Social Media Logo A Go-Go – on the 15th of July, a rate of one post every 2.16 days. If you’ve been reading posts at a similar rate many, many thanks.

Anyway, lets get numerical. As always this post follows on from the September, August and July posts and is based on the trojan work done by expandedramblings.com.

The genesis of keeping track of these stats is a curiousity of mine as to whether or not this breed of social media platforms is reaching the end of their cycles. Only time will tell but in the mean time, lets tabulate ;)

When all is said in done the top 25 give us a total of 7.608 BILLION social media users of the top 25 social media sites for October. This represents a slight increase in users of .184%. The big movers and shakers in the month were Facebook losing a bit and a new arrival, Douban, knocking Classmates.com off the bottom of the chart and into social media oblivion (cough, 26th spot).

I think next month I’ll roll out one of my much promised graphs to give a visual representation of monthly changes. Note: These social media usage figures are based on the work done by ExpandedRamblings. It isn’t easy to get accurate and verified stats and so some of the social media stats might be a bit off.
